Ted Turner, born November 19, 1938, has died.

He died on Wednesday.

Mr Turner was 87 years old.

He was an American entrepreneur, TV producer and founder of the Cable News Network (CNN).

In a statement by Turner Enterprises, the family said Mr Turner passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.

“On behalf of the Turner family, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of philanthropist, environmentalist and cable pioneer Ted Turner,” the statement read.

Mr Turner was best known for founding CNN, the first 24-hour television news network.

His influence extended across the industry through the creation of major cable channels, including Cartoon Network, TNT, and TCM.

Beyond broadcasting, Mr Turner was known for his philanthropic efforts and environmental advocacy.

According to the family, he donated over $1 billion to various causes, and preserved more than two million acres of land.

He also promoted “healthy” living by selling bison meat through his restaurant chain, Ted’s Montana Grill.

The family noted that he preferred being addressed simply as “Ted,” showing his approachable nature.

Mr Turner is survived by his five children, Laura Turner Seydel, Robert E Turner IV, Rhett Turner, Beau Turner, and Jennie Turner Garlington, as well as 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family said a private service would take place, with details of a public memorial to be announced later, as they asked for privacy during their period of mourning.
