The Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has sought the support of Nigerians in the ongoing fight against insecurity.

Mr Oluyede made the appeal during an interaction with media professionals in commemoration of the ‘Nigerian Army Day at 162 Celebration, 2025,’ held on Saturday in Kaduna.

He said, “The Nigerian army belongs to all Nigerians and every region as well as state is represented. It is essential for all the citizens to come on board and support the army and security agencies to tackle the enormous challenges. The army is working to stabilise areas affected by insurgency and banditry. While there have been successes, there are still concerns about the enemy’s use of unmanned aerial vehicles and the need for continued efforts to enhance security.”

Mr Oluyede added that the army had taken steps to improve the welfare of soldiers, including increasing their allowances, providing better equipment and training.

The COAS explained that the army was also working to improve its intelligence gathering and collaboration with other security agencies.

He also said in terms of specific challenges, the army was facing difficulties in taking out notorious bandits and terrorists, saying, “but efforts are being made to address these issues.’’

The COAS added, “The army is also working to improve its training and accommodation for soldiers, with plans to establish new training facilities. The Nigerian army is collaborating with international partners, including neighbouring countries, to share intelligence and support security efforts. The army is also working to improve its capabilities and address the challenges it faces.”

Mr Oluyede said the army was aware of the challenges it was facing, including the need for better accommodation and training facilities.

According to Mr Oluyede, efforts are being made to address these issues and improve the overall effectiveness of the army.

He said, “In some regions, the army is facing challenges in engaging with the local population, particularly in areas where people are more focused on business and economic activities. However, the army is working to raise awareness and encourage participation, particularly among women.”

The media engagement had the presence of its Editor-in-Chief, Muftau Ojo including other media professionals from NTA, Arise TV, Channels TV, AIT, Thisday Newspaper, CKN News and News Central.
