Nigeria’s strong form continues at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Friday with Ezekiel Nathaniel winning gold in the men’s 400m hurdles and Udodi Onwuzurike claiming the silver medal in the men’s 200m final, clocking a season’s best time 

Nathaniel delivered an outstanding performance in the 400m hurdles, clocking 48.47 seconds to become the first Nigerian to win gold in the event at the Commonwealth Games.

Jake Minshull claimed silver for England in 48.99 seconds, while Jamaica’s Assinie Wilson won bronze in 49.22 seconds.

Nathaniel’s victory marked Nigeria’s first gold medal in a track event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Udodi Onwuzurike earned the silver medal in Nigeria’s men’s 200m, winning Nigeria’s first medal in the event in 32 years after finishing in 20.09 seconds, behind South Africa’s Sinesiphlo Dambile, who took gold in 19.96 seconds.

Both athletes’ performances increase Nigeria’s medal haul to 18 medals, with nine gold medals, six silver and three bronze at the games
