Commonwealth Games: Nigeria wins silver in men’s 4x100m, Usoro claims long jump silver

Nigeria added two silver medals to its tally at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Saturday, as the men’s 4x100m relay team and Ruth Usoro finished second in their respective events.
The quartet of Favour Ashe, Kayinsola Ajayi, Nicholas Fakorede and Udodi Onwuzurike finished behind Australia, which secured gold in 38.07 seconds, clocking a season-best of 38.12 seconds, ahead of Ghana, which claimed bronze with 38.13 seconds. Canada and South Africa were disqualified.
Ruth Usoro clinched the silver medal in the women’s long jump with a season-best leap of 6.87m on her first attempt, beating her sixth-place finish at the 2022 Commonwealth Games where she jumped 6.87m.
Usoro finished behind England’s Jazmin Sawyers, who won gold with 6.93m, while Tia-Adana Belle recorded a leap of 6.83m for Barbados.
Team Nigeria concluded day nine of the 2026 Commonwealth Games with one gold, two silver medals and one bronze medal. Samuel Ogazi won Nigeria’s first-ever gold medal in the men’s 400m, while Ella Onojuvwevo grabbed bronze in the women’s 400m, taking Nigeria’s medal haul to 21 medals.
