Commonwealth Games: Team Nigeria hailed for outstanding performance at Glasgow
Donatus Agu-Ejidike, a sports enthusiast and patron of the Nigerian Football Supporters Club, has congratulated for emerging as Africa’s highest-ranked nation at the just-concluded Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
Mr Agu-Ejidike described the achievement as a remarkable demonstration of patriotism, discipline, resilience and the indomitable Nigerian spirit.
Nigeria ended its campaign at the competition with an impressive medal haul of 24 medals, including 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals.
The Anambra-born sports philanthropist said the athletes had once again proved that, given the right support and enabling environment, Nigeria possessed the talent to compete successfully with the best in the world.
He commended the athletes, coaches, technical crews, the National Sports Commission, sporting federations, officials and sponsors for their dedication, sacrifices and contributions towards the historic outing.
According to him, the success recorded in Glasgow should serve as an inspiration for the nation and a renewed motivation for all those entrusted with the responsibility of developing Nigerian sports.
He said the performance had further reinforced Nigeria’s position as one of Africa’s foremost sporting nations.
Mr Agu-Ejidike urged Team Nigeria and all the sporting associations not to rest on their laurels, adding that greater challenges and opportunities lay ahead on the international stage. He advised the team to sustain the momentum through improved preparation, discipline and hard work as they prepare for forthcoming continental and global competitions.
He expressed confidence that they would continue to make Nigeria proud.
Mr Agu-Ejidike reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the growth and development of sports in the country.
He called on governments at all levels, the private sector, and other well-meaning Nigerians to continue investing in sports development, saying sports had become a powerful vehicle for national unity, youth empowerment, and international prestige.
