Communications and digital economy minister Bosun Tijani has said at least 90 per cent of Nigerians should be digitally literate by 2030.

Mr Tijani explained that the Tinubu administration plans to include not just the youth but also the older generation in its plans.

“ We have a programme called digital literacy. The plan is that, by 2030, 90% of Nigerians should be digitally literate,” Mr Tijani said on Channels’ Sunrise Daily Thursday. “Digital literacy doesn’t mean that you become a technical talent. it gives you the foundation to be able to choose whether you also want to participate in the digital economy.”

“There’s a need for us to ensure that as we invest in the drive, the larger part of our population are digitally literate so that we do not leave certain people behind,” Mr Tijani added.

The minister explained that the government has plans to train three million Nigerians in technical skills in the next few years.

He disclosed that his ministry is already working with state governments to actualise the vision and bring the plans to fruition.

The minister also said that the Federal Government plans to set up hardware training centres in popular tech incubation hubs like Computer Village in Lagos and Aba in Abia state.

He said the aim of this goal is to advance manpower development and expand job opportunities for over 200 million Nigerians.

Mr Tijani, previously a tech investor in Lagos, was named minister by President Bola Tinubu in August 2023.
