Confusion in court as different lawyers appear for PDP in lawsuit against INEC

There was confusion in the Federal High Court, Abuja Division, on Friday as two lawyers appeared for the Peoples Democratic Party in a suit filed by the Adolphus Wabara-led board of trustees against the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The suit, before Justice Salim Ibrahim, seeks an order of the court compelling INEC to recognise the Kabiru Turaki-led interim National Working Committee of the PDP on its official website.
The BOT and the PDP had filed the fresh suit.
The plaintiffs sought an order directing the electoral umpire to forthwith update its records and publish on its official website the interim NWC of the party, as forwarded to it by the plaintiffs and its National Executive Committee.
They said the names of members of the Tanimu Turaki-led NWC were forwarded to the electoral umpire via their letters dated May 4.
The originating summons, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1159/2026, was filed on June 4 by a team of lawyers led by Chris Uche.
Listed as plaintiffs are Mr Wabara, BOT secretary Muazu Babangida Aliyu, Jerry Gana, and Bode George as the first to fourth plaintiffs. Others are Maryam Ciroma, Zainab Maina, Esther Uduehi, and PDP, as the fifth to eighth plaintiffs, respectively.
The plaintiffs sued INEC as the sole defendant.
Meanwhile, when the case was called on Friday, Gordy Uche announced an appearance for all eight plaintiffs, including PDP, which is the eighth plaintiff.
But Sunday Ameh also stood up shortly after Mr Uche made his appearance and also announced his appearance for the PDP.
The development, however, generated some confusion in court.
Mr Turaki, the factional national chairman of PDP, and Mr Gana, among others, were in court for the proceedings.
