Adeola Adeyeye, an Ondo-based chef, has embarked on a culinary challenge to surpass the current cook-a-thon Guinness World Records (GWR) holder, Hilda Baci, Peoples Gazette reports.

Ms Adeyeye, 26, now known as ‘Chef Debo’, started the cook-a-thon challenge on June 30, 2023, in her hometown of Ile-Oluji, the headquarters of Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Council Area of Ondo.

A graduate of Esae University, Cotonou, Benin Republic, Ms Adeyeye is expected to conclude the cook-a-thon by July 6, 2023, when she must have completed 150 hours of cooking marathon.

Speaking on Monday, the Ondo-based Chef said her mission is to become champion by displacing the current holder of the cook-a-thon, Ms Baci – with her 93 hours and 11 minutes record.

She noted that she had already informed the GWR of her intentions and was told to proceed with the contest before commencing the cook-a-thon in her country home.

Ms Adeyeye, who spoke through her manager, Ayotunde Fagbemiye, disclosed that she proceeded with the cook-a-thon, after a thorough review, acknowledgement and authorisation by the GWR in her mission to attempt the breaking Ms Baci’s record.

“Guinness World Records granted her approval to undertake the cook-a-thon and we were elated upon receiving the notification that she could proceed to break the record for an individual’s cooking marathon.

“She possesses great energy and is prepared to cook for 150 hours. She’s ready to break the record of the GWR as her passion and determination are evident, and I am confident she will successfully reach the end of this journey,” she added.

Over 50 hours into her challenge, Ms Adeyeye has prepared a wide variety of menus featuring a wide range of dishes and delicacies.

The Gazette reports that residents and visitors have continued to troop the community in anticipation of gearing up Ms Adeyeye.

The visitors included food enthusiasts, fellow cooks, and journalists who are flocking to the venue to witness the record-breaking endeavour firsthand.

The latest feat by Ms Adeyeye comes weeks after another Nigerian chef, Adeparusi Damilola, undertook a 120-hour cook-a-thon in Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

But Damilola, popularly known as “Chef Dammy,” reportedly failed to notify GWR before embarking on the cooking marathon.
