Surah Animashahun, chairwoman of Epe LGA in Lagos, has vowed to harness the boundless potential of grassroots tourism to turn the community into the most preferred tourist destination in the country.

Ms Animashahun stated this in an interview on Monday.

She said the homeland is richly blessed with serene landscapes, historic watersides, majestic cultural traditions, exquisite cuisine, and an enduring heritage that continues to inspire pride and resilience.

“From festivals that echo the wisdom of generations to the evolving attractions shaping our modern identity, Epe remains one of the brightest gems of Lagos state’s tourism treasure,” she said.

The chairman noted that tourism is more than just a sector. She considered tourism as a bridge of opportunity, a pathway to prosperity, and a window through which the world experiences the soul of a people.

She reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to positioning Epe as a premier hub of tourism and hospitality, where culture meets innovation and every visitor discovers the true essence of Nigeria.

Ms Animashahun said that her administration was working to improve infrastructure around tourism corridors in the area, including better road access, waterfront development, and cultural centres that would enhance visitors’ experiences.

She noted that collaboration with local stakeholders, private investors, and traditional institutions would be key to driving sustainable tourism growth that benefits both the economy and the people of Epe.

According to her, youth empowerment and skills development in hospitality, creative arts, and tourism services remain central to her administration’s strategy of ensuring that the sector creates jobs and wealth for the community.

“Together, let us preserve our heritage, celebrate our uniqueness, and open new doors of possibilities, so that Epe will continue to shine, not only as the pride of Lagos but as a destination of global admiration,” she said.
