IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu’s trial has been adjourned until January 18, 2022, after his lawyers approached the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court for an abridgement of time.

Justice Binta Nyako informed Mr Kanu’s lawyers that there was no earlier date than January 18 next year.

Ifeanyi Ejiofor led Mr Kanu’s legal team, and Shuaibu Labaran appeared for the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).

The IPOB leader, facing a terrorism charge, was not in court.

Last month, the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court adjourned the trial of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu until January 19, 2022. Mr Kanu, who has been agitating for the South-East secession, was arrested in June in Nairobi, Kenya.

The separatist leader faces a seven-count charge bordering on terrorism, treasonable felony, and insulting President Muhammadu Buhari.

The separatist leader through Radio Biafra had been pushing a narrative that an impostor allegedly called “Jibrin of Sudan” occupied the presidential seat in the stead of Buhari.
