Court jails bartender for stealing employer’s N372,000

A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Tuesday sentenced a 29-year-old bar attendant, Samson Timothy, to eight months imprisonment for stealing his employer’s N372,000.
The convict, a resident of Goni-gora in Kaduna, pleaded guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mr Ibrahim Emmanuel, sentenced Timothy to eight months imprisonment without option of fine to deter potential offenders.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Inspector Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on February 28 at Ungwan Sunday, Kaduna.
Mr Leo told the court that the defendant, who was employed as a bartender by the complainant, Austin Okoro, at his leisure centre, stole N372,000 on February 28, which was part of his sales for the day.
“The bar owner waited for two days for Timothy to return with the stolen money but he did not, which made him report the matter to the police. The defendant was traced and arrested at his friend’s house and half of the money was recovered from him,” the prosecutor told the court.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
