The Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday, sentenced one Safijany Mohammed, 34, to 18 months in the correctional centre for stealing a vehicle and spare parts.

The judge, Aliyu Kagarko, sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the offences of criminal trespass, attempt to steal and stealing preferred against him.

Mr Kagarko, however, granted Mr Mohammed the option of a N50,000 fine in lieu of imprisonment.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Stephen Osho, had told the court that the convict trespassed into the workshop of Ismailia Abbas (the complainant) and stole a vehicle but was caught.

He said the stolen vehicle belonged to a customer of the complainant.

According to Mr Osho, when questioned by the police following his arrest, the convict confessed to stealing spare parts worth N130,000.

The offences, the prosecutor said, contravened sections 348 and 95 of the Penal Code.
