Court jails ‘Yahoo Boy’ for $30 fraud

A 24-year-old man was sentenced to four months in prison after being found guilty of online scam by a federal judge.
Anti-graft EFCC said in a statement that Oluwatimilehin Oladimeji was jailed for cheating a woman he met on the Internet by getting her to send him a gift card from eBay worth $30.Â
Mr. Oladimeji, using Snyder Paul as his alias, passed himself off as a military officer to Linda Rhind Medeiros, who subsequently fell in love with him, EFCC cited court filings as saying.
The Offa resident was arrested in September 2020 by advance fee fraud officials of the anti-graft office’s field offices in Ilorin.Â
Justice Mahmood Abdulgafar of Ilorin Division of Kwara State High Court found Mr. Oladimeji guilty of the charges as presented by prosecutors and convicted him.
The judge also sentenced two others for similar offences relating to online fraud, EFCC said.
