An industrial court in Lagos has ordered the reinstatement of the sacked clerk of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Olalekan Onafeko.

Justice M. N. Esowe gave the order while ruling on an ex parte motion Mr Onafeso filed against the Lagos government, Lagos State Civil Service Commission, Lagos State House of Assembly Service Commission, the speaker of the house, attorney general of Lagos and the acting clerk, Ottun Babatunde.

In the suit marked NICN/LA/23/2025, Mr Onafeso sought an interim injunction restraining the six defendants from parading any individual, including Mr Babatunde as the clerk pending the hearing of the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction in the suit.

Mr Esowe granted the application and ordered Mr Babatunde to stop parading himself as the clerk.

“That both parties shall maintain the peace and status quo ante bellum until the motion on notice is heard and determined,” the judge said.

The hearing of the motion on notice was scheduled for March 3, 2025.

Mr Onafeso was given the boot during the controversial impeachment of the erstwhile Mr Obasa over allegations bordering on corruption and abuse of office.

Mr Onafeso, one of the members loyal to Mr Obasa, was replaced by Mr Ottun as the acting clerk.

Mr Obasa’s impeachment has sparked controversies in the ruling All Progressives Congress in Lagos, with President Bola Tinubu demanding the politician’s reinstatement.

Members snubbed Mr Tinubu’s directive and passed a vote of confidence in Mojisola Meranda, affirming that her election as the speaker was in tandem with the Nigerian Constitution and other extant laws.
