An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court Tuesday ordered a businessman, Samuel Asiama, 42, be remanded for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl.

The police charged Mr Asiama, who resides in Isale-Oja, Agege, Lagos, with defilement.

Magistrate A.O Layinka, who did not take Mr Asiama’s plea, ordered he be remanded in Kirikri Correctional Centre.

Ms Layinka directed the police to send the case file to the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice and adjourned the case until December 1 for DPP legal advice.

The Prosecution Counsel, Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that Mr Asiama committed the offence on August 14 at his residence.

He said that Mr Asiama called the girl into his room and defiled her.

He said the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. This section prescribes life imprisonment for defilement.
