Court remands couple for allegedly killing 25-year-old woman in Ekiti

An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday ordered the remand of a 67-year-old man, Lamidi Salau, and his 65-year-old wife, Lamidi Abigail, for allegedly killing a 25-year-old woman, Kehinde Omize.
The defendants are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder.
The prosecutor, Akinwale Oriyomi, alleged that the defendants committed the offences on September 9 in the Dallimore area of Ado-Ekiti.
The prosecutor informed the court that the defendants and one other who is at large allegedly killed Kehinde Omize.
Mr Oriyomi alleged that the defendants, who were friends of the deceased’s father, were intervening in the dispute between the deceased and her husband when the incident happened.
He said the husband of the deceased came into the meeting without notice and allegedly macheted his wife to death in the presence of the defendants.
The prosecutor said the deceased’s family reported to the police that the defendants knew about the deceased’s husband’s presence at the meeting.
According to him, the offences contravene Sections 244 and 234 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendants at a correctional facility, pending advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The court did not take the defendants’ pleas.
Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun ordered the defendants remanded at the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre.
The case was adjourned until October 9 for mention.
