Court remands Lagos NURTW member over killing of dispatch rider

The Ebute-Meta Magistrate Court in Yaba, Lagos, has remanded a member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Shamusideen Oladiti, popularly known as Shameleon, over the alleged killing of a dispatch rider, Imam Rahmon.
The court remanded the 55-year-old defendant on Tuesday, after the state police command, earlier in the day, arraigned him on a three-count charge of murder, conspiracy, and grievous harm.
Court documents revealed that Mr Oladiti and his associates, now at large, repeatedly punched and struck one Omale Samuel and Mr Rahmon along Tapa Street, Lagos Island, on August 27, 2025.
According to the charge sheet, the road transport staff allegedly assaulted Mr Rahmon until he fell into a coma for allegedly scratching his vehicle, after which the victim was rushed to the Lagos Island General Hospital, Marina, where he was confirmed dead on September 17, 2025.
The court said Mr Oladiti’s offence contravened Sections 223, 411, and 245 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges, prompting the magistrate to order his remand pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
