Court remands man, 25, over alleged theft of smartphone

A Grade A Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo.State., on Friday remanded a 25-year old man, Ibrahim Bala in a correctional centre over alleged theft of smart phone, valued N218,000.
Bala is standing trial over alleged stealing to which he pleaded not guilty.
The court’s President, O.E. Owoseni, ordered Bala to be remanded at the Agodi Correctional Centre after he failed to fulfill the conditions for bail.
Before the remand order, Owoseni had admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000, with two reliable sureties in like sum.
She further ordered that the sureties must be blood relatives of the defendant, and should provide valid means of identification.
The president thereafter, adjourned the matter until November 21 for hearing.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Inspector Ayodele Ayeni, told the court that the defendant committed the crime on October 19 at Agotapa St., Mokola Ibadan.
Ayeni further stated that Bala broke into the apartment of the complainant, Dasola Adeleke, and stole her Samsong AO5 mobile phone, valued at N218,000.
“The defendant also stole a phone charger, worth N5,000, and N5,000 cash belonging to the complainant,” he said.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
