Court remands man over alleged assault

An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, remanded a 30-year-old man, Popoola Gbenga, 30, over alleged assault.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on September 8, around 3pm at Asabi Village via Modakeke, Ife East Area Office.
Mr Osanyintuyi alleged that the defendant threatened the life of one Omoboye Oyedele with a single barrel gun and also physically assaulted him.
He added that the assault on Oyedele with a cutlass caused him a bodily harm.
According to him, the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by causing pandemonium in the area.
The prosecutor stated further that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 86(2),249(d), 252, 351 and 355 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The defendant, who was not legally represented, however pleaded not guilty to a four-count charge of: threat to life, assault and breach of peace.
Magistrate Abosede Sarumi did not grant the bail of the defendant, but ordered his remand at the Nigerian Correctional Service, Ile-Ife, pending the consideration of his bail.
Ms Sarumi adjourned the case until October 6 for mention at the Modakeke Magistrates’ Court.
