Court remands man over armed robbery

The Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan on Friday ordered the remand of a 31-year-old man, Ayomide Taofeek, in a correctional facility over alleged armed robbery.
Mr Taofeek, whose address was not provided, was charged with conspiracy and armed robbery.
The magistrate, Oluwabusayo Osho, did not take the defendant’s plea for want of jurisdiction.
She directed the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
She, thereafter, adjourned the case until May 21 for mention.
The prosecutor, Adeshina Folaranmi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on February 27, at about 3:30 a.m., in the Olorunda-Aba area of Ibadan.
He alleged the defendant and others at large, while armed with cutlasses and knives, robbed one Odunola Ogunlola of her phones and watch.
Mr Folaranmi also claimed that the defendant, on the same date and in the same area, robbed one Hamed Balogun of his watch, phones and other valuables.
He said the offences contravened sections 516 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000 and 6(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, 2004.
