Court remands Mbaka for defiling 15-year-old girl

Justice Rahman Oshodi of an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has remanded a man, Onyeka Mbaka, in a correctional facility for alleged defilement of a 15-year-old girl.
The judge remanded Mr Mbaka in Kirikiri Prison custody, pending his bail application and commencement of trial.
He subsequently adjourned the case until March 22 for trial.
The defendant, whose residential address was not given, was arraigned by the Lagos government for defilement.
He, however, pleaded not guilty.
Following his not-guilty plea, the state counsel, Bukola Okeowo, prayed the court to remand the defendant accordingly.
Ms Okeowo had told the court that the prosecution intends to call three witnesses to prove the charge against the defendant.
She said the defendant committed the offence sometime in March 2023 in the Ilasa area of Lagos.
According to her, the offence contravened section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
