An 18-year-old teenager, Baseet Wasiu, has been arraigned before a Mapo Chief Magistrate Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, over alleged theft of an Itel Android smartphone valued at N125,000.

Wasiu pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of stealing instituted against him and was ordered to be remanded in the correctional centre due to his inability to fulfill the bail conditions the court granted him.

The magistrate, O.O. Latunji, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.

Ms Latunji added that the sureties must be blood relations.

She adjourned the case until October 28 for hearing.

The prosecuting counsel, Inspector Oluseye Akinola, told the court that the defendant committed the crime on July 18, at Adesola area, Orita-Aperin, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Shedding more light on the matter, Akinola stated that Wasiu stole the phone valued at N125,000 from where the complainant, Ade Adekola, was charging it.

The prosecutor noted that the defendant confessed to having sold the phone and couldn’t trace the buyer anymore.

According to him, the offence contravened the provision of section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 38 vol. ii law of Oyo State 2000.
