Court sentences Jos trader to prison for stealing chickens

On Friday, a Jos Magistrates’ Court sentenced a 22-year-old trader, Shederack Danlami, to four months’ imprisonment for stealing two chickens.

On Friday, a Jos Magistrates’ Court sentenced a 22-year-old trader, Shederack Danlami, to four months’ imprisonment for stealing two chickens.

Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos summarily tried and sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the charge.

In her judgment, the magistrate gave the convict an option of a fine of N20,000.

She also ordered him to pay N20,000 as compensation to the complainant.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Daniel Longwal, told the court that the case was reported at the Anglo-Jos Police Station on March 25 by a team of vigilantes.

Mr Longwal said the convict stole and slaughtered the two chickens worth  N20,000.
