A Grade 1 Area Court at Lugbe, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a labourer, Tile Dominic, to eight weeks in prison for stealing wire.

The Judge, Aliyu Kagarko, sentenced Dominic, 26, who pleaded guilty to stealing, as charged.

Mr Kagarko, however, gave Dominic an option of N20, 000 fine.

The prosecutor, E. A. Nnamani, earlier told the court that the convict, a resident of New Nyanya in the Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, stole one roll of 1.5mm wire belonging to a man identified simply as Johnson.

Mr Nnamani said that the theft occurred on March 28.

He added that Mr Dominic returned on March 29 to steal more and was caught.

The prosecutor said that stealing contravened Section 287 of the Penal Code.

According to Mr Nnamani, the convict was hired as a labourer on the NNPC Estate, Lugbe, Abuja, when he committed the offence.

Mr Nnamani said that the matter was reported at the Lugbe Police Station by one John Ogbache, on March 29.

He said that the wire was found in Dominic’s possession, adding that during a police investigation he admitted to being guilty.
