On Tuesday, the Abuja division of the Federal High Court struck out Binance executive Nadeem Anjarwalla’s fundamental rights violation lawsuit instituted against Nigerian authorities. 

Justice Inyang Ekwo dismissed Mr Anjarwalla’s fundamental rights suit against the National Security Adviser and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission because he and his counsel, Tonye Krukrubo, failed to appear in court. 

Mr Anjarwalla, Binance’s Africa regional manager, fled custody and flew out of the country on March 22 after approaching the court to seek redress for Nigerian authorities’ violation of his fundamental rights. 

After Mr Anjarwalla escaped from detention and fled the country, his legal counsel, Mr Krukrubo, filed a “notice of withdrawal of legal representation.”

Binance has yet to respond to Peoples Gazette’s email seeking comment on the court’s ruling dismissing Mr Anjarwalla’s case.

In late February, Mr Anjarwalla and his colleague, Tigran Gambaryan both flew into Nigeria in February for a meeting with National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu amid Nigeria’s clampdown on cryptocurrency platforms on claims that they aid currency speculators damaging the Nigerian naira.

Though Mr Anjarwalla escaped from the NSA custody and fled the country, Mr Gambaryan has remained in custody, faced with money laundering charges.
