A company distributing Tecno and Infinix mobile devices, Transsion Holdings, has had its offices shut after being reportedly found in violation of Nigeria’s extant guidelines against the spread of coronavirus, paralysing activities throughout Tuesday, Peoples Gazette learnt.

Sources familiar with the development on Tuesday afternoon told the Gazette that the company’s office along Isaac John, Ikeja GRA, was locked following speculation that some senior staff members of the Chinese-run firm who tested positive to COVID-19 were still coming to work despite knowing their contagious status.

Another source who confirmed the development to the Gazette said the company claimed the National Lottery Commission locked the entire building due to violations by Techno and Infinix in their N20 million giveaway and brand new car promo campaign. Sources said they doubted the claim.

A spokesman for the disease control office NCDC did not immediately return a request seeking comments from the Gazette. A senior management official at Transsion, Remmy Olayode, denied any disruption of their activities on Tuesday, describing the development as “totally untrue and malicious”.

But pictures and videos seen by Gazette showed workers lamenting outside the offices of Transsion over the development. Many of the workers subsequently left the premises in frustration after relentless pleas with health officials were ignored.
