Crime: AIG urges officers to maintain professionalism, intelligence-led policing

The assistant inspector general of police, Zone 5 Headquarters, Benin, Salman-Dogo Garba, has urged officers and men to uphold professional standards and ensure intelligence-led policing in the fight against crimes.

Mr Garba gave the charge in his maiden security conference held with the police commissioners of Edo and Delta, as well as deputy police commissioners, operations and criminal investigations department from both commands and the zonal management team.

He also tasked them on being proactive, ensuring discipline and loyalty to the force.

According to him, all officers and men in the zone must exhibit professionalism in their respective commands and discipline, including self and official.

“You must be loyal to the Nigeria Police Force while performing their duties of maintaining law and order and upholding public peace,” he said.

He commended the efforts and initiatives of the senior officers in curbing crime and criminality in their areas of responsibility. Also, he charged them to be on top of situations in their respective AORs.

Mr Garba also directed that all DPOs be mobilised to respond promptly, efficiently and effectively to all incidents within their jurisdiction. 

He charged personnel to continue to improve and enhance their anti-crime strategies to see crime reduced significantly.

Similarly, the AIG also met with area commanders, squadron commanders and intelligence officers from the Delta and Edo commands and tasked them on high-level intelligence gathering and policing.

He urged the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious persons to the nearest Police station.
