Crisis brewing in Kwara amid contradicting FA election dates

A crisis is brewing in Kwara, as events on Thursday in Ilorin blew into the open a state of confusion among the major stakeholders.
Bunmi Adedoyin, a member of the appeals committee of the Kwara Football Association, announced a June 20 date for the FA election.
But Kareem Agaka, the FA’s secretary and of the electoral and appeals committee, countered the announcement. He issued soon after a statement saying the announcement was wrong.
Mr Agaka, in his statement, said June 13 was endorsed by the FA’s congress held at Iloffa in the Oke-Ero local council on Saturday. He said the May 13 extraordinary assembly, staged primarily to discuss election matters, approved the date. The tenure of the current board expires on that day.
He said the congress sanctioned the date and could only be altered by the congress in the case of force majeure.
The chairman of the Kwara FA, Idris Musa, inaugurated the committee led by Emmanuel Obafemi on Wednesday in Ilorin.
Mr Adedoyin, who briefed journalists after the electoral committee’s inaugural meeting on Thursday, said the sale and collection of nomination forms would start on Friday and end on May 29.
He added that the submission of completed forms would end on May 30, while the screening of all contestants would hold on May 31 at the Kwara Football House.
Mr Adedoyin explained that campaign activities by contestants would hold from June 4 to June 19.
“We advise all would-be aspirants to familiarise themselves with the Electoral Code, Electoral Guidelines and Statutes of the Football Association,” he said.
The committee chairman is Mr Obafemi, a retired FIFA referee and CAF instructor. AbdulGafar Ijaiya, former director of sports, Serah Esan, Sule Abass and Jimoh Oke, are members.
The appeals committee has Jimoh Kehinde as Chairman, while AbdulKareem Ayinde, Mobolaji Ojibara, Bunmi Adedoyin and Aliyu Baba are members.
Mr Agaka is the secretary of the two committees.
