Cross River: APC expels former chairman, upholds suspension of ‘special leader’

Alphonsus Eba, the impeached chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Cross River, has been expelled from the party.
The decision was taken at a meeting of a caretaker committee held at the party’s secretariat in Calabar.
He was expelled by the committee that also upheld the suspension of ‘special leader’ Juliet Diwa.
The committee, led by Ekum Ojogu, announced the expulsion of Mr Alphonsus Eba, following the invocation of Article 21.5(v) of the APC Constitution, as amended in 2022.
Announcing the expulsion, Mr Ojogu said, “The provision mandates automatic expulsion of any member who institutes legal action against the party without exhausting internal dispute resolution mechanisms.”
The embattled Mr Alphonsus was earlier removed as the party chair after some members accused him of misconduct and of withholding the salaries of some stakeholders.
The committee also considered a letter from the Boki LGA on the suspension of Mr Diwa.
Mr Diwa was accused of gross misconduct at the ward level, including an alleged assault on the ward chairman, James Abang.
After deliberation, the committee upheld her suspension pending the outcome of the party’s disciplinary committee.
The committee reaffirmed its commitment to party discipline, internal democracy, and strict compliance with the APC constitution.
