The Cross River House of Assembly says a total of 30 bills and 83 resolutions were passed by the 10th assembly and 10 confirmations made since its inauguration two years ago.

Elvert Ayambem, the Speaker of the Assembly, made the remark during a session to mark the end of the second legislative year.

The session, which was attended by family and friends of the legislators, also had in attendance some former members of the House.

The speaker, who commended Gov. Bassey Otu and his colleagues for their cooperation, attributed the success so far recorded to their unity.

He listed some of the bills passed to include, Cross River  Security Trust Fund Bill, 2024; Cross River Forestry Research Institute Establishment Bill, 2024; and Cross River Independent Electoral Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2024.

“Others are Cross River Senior Citizens Centre Bill, 2025; Cross River Lotteries and Gaming Agency Law 2025, and Cross River State Local Government (Amendment) Law 2025, among others.”

Speaking further, Mr Ayambem stated that the house had also carried out various confirmations and oversight functions through their various standing committees.

While regretting that the state assembly was delisted from the CommonWealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) due to indebtedness, the speaker, however, informed the house that it had been sorted out and the state legislature reinstated.

A former lawmaker, Okon Ephraim, who represented Calabar South state Constituency, said the 10th Assembly had surpassed the achievements of the last three assemblies in the state.

Commending the House for its relationship with the executive, Mr Ephraim urged members who, he said, might have come to the house with boxing gloves to fight with the executive to sheath their swords.

Also, Ogana Lokpata, former member, who represented Yala 1 Constituency, urged members to participate fully in the activities of the House, noting that it was the only way they could improve in their legislative functions.
