Cross River North: stakeholders back chairman’s reinstatement

Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party in Cross River North have supported the National Working Committee’s decision to reinstate the suspended state chairman.
The stakeholders include Jarigbe Agom-Jarigbe (representing the senatorial district) and lawmakers Peter Akpanke (Bekwarra/Obudu/Obanliku) and Godwin Offiono (Yala/Ogoja federal constituencies).
They met with the reinstated chairman, Venatius Ikem, at Agom-Jarigbe’s residence in Ogoja on Friday.
During the meeting, party leaders called for unity among members and urged them to resist distractions.
After in-depth deliberations, the leaders unanimously resolved to comply with the NWC’s decision and reaffirm their commitment to the party’s growth.
Mr Offiono thanked the constituents for their continued support and reiterated his dedication to the PDP.
He also lauded Mr Agom-Jarigbe for his leadership and efforts to bring democratic benefits to the senatorial district.
Similarly, Mr Akpanke reassured party members of his loyalty, dismissing rumours of his defection.
“I am not defecting to the APC. I remain a committed member of the PDP; this is my home,” he affirmed.
Mr Agom-Jarigbe accused certain individuals who had fallen out with the governor of attempting to destabilise the party under the guise of a coalition.
He clarified that this coalition was originally formed to support Governor Liyel Imoke’s re-election bid.
The reinstated chairman, Mr Ikem, thanked Mr Agom-Jarigbe for his role in resolving the crisis and fostering unity within the party.
He apologised to party members for the instability caused and pledged to provide better leadership moving forward.
Other party leaders from various local government areas also spoke, emphasising the importance of continued unity and reaffirming their commitment to the PDP.
