The Federal Fire Service command in Cross River says the state recorded 14 fire incidents between January and June.

The commander, Olumayowa Olomola, disclosed this in an interview with journalists in Calabar on Sunday.

Ms Olomola said goods worth more than N15 million were destroyed in the incidents.

She said that although no death was recorded in the outbreaks that occurred during the period, two persons were injured.

The fire service official further said the command had remained committed to its duties despite “very low motion.”

“The figure I just presented to you is far lower than what we recorded in the past. We urge residents of the state to be more safety conscious,” she said.

Ms Olomola said the command would continue to carry out sensitisation campaigns across the state to educate the residents on preventing fire outbreaks.

“Our effectiveness is being hampered by some challenges. Currently, we only have one fire machine, this is not enough for our operations in the state.

“We need utility vehicles, tankers and other things that will enhance our operations. Our job is so crucial, and stakeholders need to support us,” she said.
