Crossover Celebrations: Police ban burning of tyres in Nasarawa

The Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, Shetima Mohammed, has imposed a total ban on the burning of used tyres during crossover night activities marking the New Year celebrations across the state.
The commissioner gave the directive in a statement issued on Tuesday in Lafia by the police public relations officer in the state, SP Ramhan Nansel.
According to the statement, Mr Mohammed has ordered all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to ensure strict enforcement of the ban.
He warned that anyone found engaging in the act would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The police boss said that the ban was necessary to protect critical government and private infrastructure from damage and defacement, prevent environmental pollution, and ensure the free flow of traffic as well as public safety during the festivities.
He also urged vulcanisers across the state to ensure that all used tyres were properly disposed of or taken away at the close of business each day to prevent unauthorised access by members of the public.
The commissioner also advised parents and guardians to caution their wards against engaging in the burning of tyres or other unlawful activities during the New Year celebrations.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nasarawa State Police Command to ensuring a peaceful, safe and hitch-free New Year celebration for all residents of the state.
