Cultists, robbers, kidnappers using IPOB’s name to unleash terror: South-East Governors

“Cultists, armed robbers and kidnappers have recruited themselves and are using the name of IPOB to be killing innocent citizens.”

• November 5, 2021

Amid worsening insecurity in their region and agitation for secession, South-East governors have raised the alarm that cultists, armed robbers and kidnappers are using IPOB’s name to unleash terror.

“We are aware that the insecurity in the South-East has gone beyond IPOB. Cultists, armed robbers and kidnappers have recruited themselves and are using the name of IPOB to be killing innocent citizens. We will not allow this to continue,’’ the governors explained in a press statement issued in Abakaliki.

According to the statement, the governors and other Igbo leaders said they were now on top of the dire situation in the South-East, including providing a political solution regarding IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu’s case.

“We are aware of the various illegal orders of sit-at-home by different groups of state agitators for our people of South-East to sit at home every Monday and from November 5 to November 10. We have identified some of the spokespersons for some of these groups, and we have been engaging them to stop all forms of violence and illegalities in the South-East and allow our leaders to address all issues raised by them,” they explained.

Meanwhile, the South-East governors have pleaded with policemen and soldiers deployed for the November 6 Anambra governorship election to secure the lives of Anambra residents while operating within the rules of their engagements.
