Customs hands over seized N100 million sacks of cannabis to NDLEA

The Nigeria Customs Service says it handed over 140 sacks of cannabis to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
Customs also disclosed that it was sweating hard to locate two suspects after they were granted bail on health grounds.
The duo were arrested on December 7, 2024, allegedly conveying cannabis weighing 1,400kg to Ado Ekiti.
“But the surety for the two suspects, one Mr Ale Victor Ayodeji, has been arrested and handed over to the NDLEA for prosecution,” Morenikeji Bewaji, NSC comptroller in charge of the Ondo-Ekiti command, disclosed this to journalists after handing over the seized sacks of cannabis to the NDLEA in Akure on Monday.
She disclosed that the seized cannabis was estimated to have a market value of N112 million.
“In our fight against this threat of illicit drugs in our country, inter-agency collaboration remains a cornerstone for success. The partnership between the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the NDLEA is a shining example of effective synergy.
“The two agencies have achieved significant milestones, and we are committed to further strengthening this collaboration to reduce if not totally, eliminate illicit drugs,” said Ms Bewaji.
The NDLEA commander in Ondo, Nanzing Sallah, applauded customs for the seizure.
