Customs introduces weekly exercise for officers in Ogun

The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun 1 Area Command, Idiroko, has introduced a mandatory weekly exercise programme for all officers to enhance their fitness and performance while on duty.
In a statement on Friday in Ota, the customs area comptroller, Olukayode Afeni, said the weekly exercise aligns with the Comptroller-General’s vision for a healthier, physically and mentally fit, and productive workforce.
Speaking during the exercise on Thursday, Mr Afeni said that the strenuous nature of customs work, marked by long hours and fieldwork, required a deliberate commitment to a healthy lifestyle.
“Only when we are healthy can we perform effectively,” Mr Afeni stated.
He explained that the goal was to ensure every officer was physically fit and mentally sharp to serve the nation better.
“This is not a one-off event, but we will now be observing the exercise every Thursday to promote teamwork and informal interaction among personnel to strengthen discipline and service readiness.
“Also, we are making fitness a culture here. The Command is proving that a fit team is a formidable team,” Mr Afeni said.
The comptroller reaffirmed that officers’ welfare remains a top priority, urging all staff to embrace fitness as a core component of their professional lives.
He said the inaugural exercise included jogging, aerobics, football, and volleyball.
Mr Afeni added that beyond physical health, the exercise was designed to reduce stress, foster camaraderie, and boost overall morale within the command.
