Customs vow crackdown on smugglers in Ogun

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has promised to tackle smugglers and economic saboteurs by deploying strategic intelligence and leveraging technology to combat the smuggling activities around the border zone.
The Area Comptroller, Ogun 1 Area Command, Idiroko, Oladapo Afeni, said this on Monday in Idiroko.
According to him, the command will deploy all lawful means to fight smuggling and all illegal activities that pose threat to the economy.
Mr Afeni said, “We will enforce compliance with trade laws and regulations. We are ready and equipped to take the fight to these criminal networks, who do not mean well for our collective well-being and safety.
“Also, the command’s approach to combat smuggling activities will be firm, fair and intelligence-driven, for those smugglers that may wish to test our resolve,” he said.
Mr Afeni warned smugglers and saboteurs to desist from illegal businesses as the command had zero-tolerance against smuggling and economic sabotage.
The comptroller reiterated the command’s commitment to continue to strengthen surveillance and inter-agency collaboration with sister agencies.
He also assured that it would continue to collaborate with community stakeholders to enhance effective border operations.
