The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says 3,104 new registrations and 1,290 transfers were recorded during the ongoing continuous voter registration (CVR) from August 25 to September 2 in Ondo State.

Oluwatoyin Babalola, State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), made this known while speaking with journalists on Thursday in Akure.

Ms Babalola said that 23 new registrations of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), 443 corrections, 575 lost/damaged Permanent Voter Cards, and 410 PVC distributions were also recorded during the period.

According to the REC, the CVR cut across the 18 local government headquarters of INEC, with two centres at the headquarters in Akure.

Ms Babalola commended the massive turnout of eligible citizens since the commencement of the exercise on August 18, as well as the e-registration and physical capturing on August 25.

She, however, urged voters who had yet to collect their PVCs to do so at their various local government headquarters across the state.

“Since we started, the turnout has been impressive, but in Ondo State, we have over 285,000 uncollected PVCs. As of now, only 410 persons have collected theirs, which is very low,” she said.

Ms. Babalola, therefore, called on all eligible citizens in the state to take advantage of the ongoing CVR and register to enable them to cast their votes for their preferred candidates in the next election.

Also speaking with journalists, Luke Amuleya, a 50-year-old man, said he came for fresh registration and commended INEC for the exercise, saying the conduct was seamless and encouraging.

Mr Amuleya called on other eligible citizens to come out en masse for the registration, saying that the voter’s card was their power to elect the candidates of their choice in the next election.
