CVR Phase 2: INEC urges eligible Lagos residents to register

The Independent National Electoral Commission in Lagos has appealed to eligible residents to participate in the second phase of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration.
INEC’s resident electoral commissioner, Ayobami Salami, made the plea in a statement on Thursday.
INEC rounded off the first phase of the nationwide exercise, which began on August 18, 2025, on December 10, 2025.
Mr Salami called on residents of the second phase of the CVR, which kicked off on January 5, across local government areas and INEC headquarters in Lagos.
“We want to encourage more Lagosians to take advantage of this opportunity to register and exercise their civic duty. The eligibility criteria and timeline remain unchanged.
“However, starting from February 2026, the registration process will adopt a rotational system within Registration Areas, making it more accessible and convenient for people to participate,” said Mr Salami.
According to Mr Salami, INEC officials are prepared to ensure a smooth and transparent process. He noted that turnout had been relatively low so far, saying the second phase of CVR will run until April 2026.
He cautioned that INEC would not tolerate any form of disruption, violence, or unruly behaviour at registration centres.
“Security agencies have been alerted to ensure a peaceful and orderly process. We will ensure that the registration process is conducted in a safe and secure environment for all participants,” Mr Salami said.
The second phase of the CVR will end on April 17, while the third phase, scheduled to begin May 4, will conclude on August 17, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
