Cyber attack on Russian state television disrupts service

A cyberattack led to widespread disruptions at the Russian state-owned broadcaster VGTRK on Monday, according to media reports.
The online Russian newspaper Gazeta.Ru reported that a pro-Ukrainian hacker group named “sudo rm -RF” was responsible for the attack, citing Russian intelligence officials.
Gazeta.Ru said the attack affected the online broadcast of the programme, internal services and even the company’s internet and telephone connections.
The news channel Russia-24 was unavailable online on Monday morning.
Various reports said the servers were out of action and important information had been deleted. They also said it would take a long time to restore the service.
State television has not yet commented on the reports.
