Czech Republic on Tuesday confirmed its first case of monkeypox in the country.

The case was detected in a woman after she travelled back into the country from a music festival in Belgium and is said to be the first confirmed case out of three individuals tested.

Providing more details about the recent case, the country’s institute of public health stated that among the three individuals that have shown symptoms of the virus, only one of them has been confirmed positive.

The institute added that the tests are ongoing on the remaining two other patients, stating that the results will be confirmed soon.

Monkeypox is transmitted to humans through close contact with an infected person or animal, or with material contaminated with the virus.

The rash typically develops into raised bumps filled with fluid. It often starts on the face and spreads to other parts of the body, but can originate on other areas of the body.
