Nigerian musician, David ‘Davido’ Adeleke, has lauded Belgium’s law allowing sex workers entitled to official employment contracts, health insurance, and pension as innovative.

In a tweet on Monday, Davido described the Belgian law as a “groundbreaking move” while reacting to a report on the new legislation.

“Groundbreaking move by Belgium,” Davido tweeted, retweeting a report on legislation.

The singer’s reaction to the new legislation has garnered over a million views and about three thousand retweets with some of his followers questioning his support for such legislation, especially as he is a married man.

An X User, @flames_collins called Davido “Ashawo right activist,” while another X user, @honest30bg said “Bro you be married man o see as you Dey move.”

The Belgian law, the first of its kind in the world, gave sex workers the opportunity to go on maternity leave and sick days.

The new law came two years after sex work was decriminalised in Belgium, following months of protests in 2022, prompted by the lack of state support during the Covid pandemic.
