Deadly explosion rocks Maiduguri

Deadly explosions rocked Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, on Monday evening, causing confusion and panic among residents.
Daso Kenneth, spokesperson for the Nigeria Police in Borno, in a statement on his X page, confirmed an explosion happened around the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital at about 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
“Following reports of a suspected explosion at Maiduguri Monday Market and UMTH gate at about 7:20 p.m., joint security operatives and emergency responders have been deployed,” Mr Kenneth said.
He added, “Police EOD Unit, Base 13 Maiduguri, is on ground. Residents are advised to remain calm and avoid the area while assessments continue. Further updates shortly.”
Peoples Gazette’s calls to Mr Kenneth to confirm the number of casualties caused by the explosion were not picked up.
