The Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board extended condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of a security officer who lost his life at a cinema in Lekki.

Executive secretary and CEO of the LSFVCB, Adebukola Agbaminoja, said in a statement on Monday that the injured are already recovering.

Mrs Agbaminoja said, “The Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board (LSFVCB) has received with deep sadness the news of the tragic security incident that occurred at a cinema facility in Lekki, Lagos State.

“The board extends its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the security officer who lost his life. We also wish the injured person a speedy and full recovery.”

According to her, the incident reminds everyone of the importance of maintaining effective safety and security measures at cinemas and other entertainment facilities across the state.

The LSFVCB urged relevant security agencies to continue their investigations, and urged residents to remain calm and refrain from speculation or the circulation of unverified information.

“The safety and well-being of cinema patrons, employees, and all stakeholders in the entertainment industry remain of utmost importance,” the statement added. “The board calls on cinema operators and other stakeholders to continually review and strengthen their security and emergency-response measures in collaboration with the appropriate security agencies. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by the unfortunate incident.”

Spokespersons for the police command in Lagos, Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed that two people were confirmed dead, and another security officer injured in a fatal attack at the car park of Filmhouse Cinemas IMAX.

Mrs Adebisi said the police would review CCTV footage to determine what happened. Meanwhile, Filmhouse Group said it was cooperating with authorities in the investigation.
