Defence chief Christopher Musa says recent successful operations against terrorists and bandits in Borno and Katsina exemplify the effectiveness of the Nigerian Air Force.

Mr Musa said this at the NAF Headquarters 2024 Base Socio-Cultural Activities, held at the NAF Base Parade Ground in Abuja on Saturday.

The defence chief noted that NAF had been a critical component in the ongoing counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations across various theatres of operation.

He commended NAF personnel for standing strong, determined and professional in ensuring that the military dealt with all enemies of the state.

“The recent successful missions, including those in Kukawa, Borno State, and the joint operations in Katsina against notorious bandit kingpins, exemplify the effectiveness of the NAF.

“These operations have significantly weakened the operational capabilities of these adversaries, limiting their ability to target our vulnerable communities.

“Such achievements underscore the air force’s pivotal role in our national security strategy and highlight the bravery and professionalism of our airmen and airwomen. The evolving nature of these threats, from traditional insurgency to kidnappings and banditry, poses new challenges,” he said.

The defence chief assured all Nigerians that the armed forces, in collaboration with other security agencies, were fully prepared to confront and neutralise all threats.

According to him, comprehensive plans have been put in place, and the millionaires were already witnessing tangible results.

He said that the recent neutralisation of key terrorist figures and the dismantling of their operational infrastructure had significantly helped in restoring peace and security across the nation.

Mr Musa noted that the visionary leadership of President Bola Tinubu was instrumental to the successes so far recorded by the military.

Mr Musa said the 2024 BASA was a testament to the richness of Nigeria’s cultural heritage and the unity it fosters among the people, adding that it was a celebration of tradition and the spirit of togetherness that bound the nation.

He said such cultural celebrations underscore the collective commitment to promoting national unity and cultural pride.

The chief of the air staff, Hassan Abubakar, said the event found its roots in the colonial era, adding that it had since grown into a cherished military tradition and a highly anticipated annual event.

Mr Abubakar added that BASA was a deeply symbolic occasion that paid homage to the nation’s cultural heritage and identity as a people.
