Defence minister Christopher Musa has reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to deepen collaboration with the National Space Research and Development Agency to strengthen national security operations.

Mr Musa gave the assurance in Abuja during a recent courtesy visit by the director-general of NASRDA, Matthew Adepoju, a statement said.

The minister said intelligence-led and technology-driven operations remained critical to defeating terrorism, banditry and trans-border crimes.

He noted that satellite-enabled surveillance, radar imaging and signal analytics would significantly enhance situational awareness and provide stronger operational support to troops on the frontline.

Mr Musa stressed the need for closer synergy between NASRDA and the Defence Space Administration to ensure seamless integration of space assets into military operations.

Mr Adepoju highlighted Nigeria’s growing space capabilities and ongoing international partnerships.

He disclosed that the President had approved the procurement process for additional satellites, including radar systems, to strengthen the country’s security architecture.

Mr Adepoju added that NASRDA had developed concepts for enhanced border surveillance and real-time intelligence support to improve operational effectiveness.

Both parties agreed to harmonise efforts, eliminate mandate duplication, and develop a coordinated deployment framework to boost national security outcomes.
