Defence minister Christopher Musa and science and tech minister Kingsley Udeh met on Thursday to address local energy and technological needs to boost Nigeria’s security architecture.

The meeting, held at the defence headquarters in Abuja, focused on strengthening cooperation to advance research, innovation, and technological development for national security.

During the meeting, Mr Musa stated the need for stronger synergy among several ministries, noting that innovation and indigenous technological development are essential to addressing national challenges.

The defence minister also highlighted the value of reliable energy supply for defence operations. 

He explained that several military barracks across the country face electricity challenges. He urged for a collaboration between the ministry of defence and the Energy Commission of Nigeria.

Mr Musa added that such partnership could help identify sustainable power solutions for military facilities.

“Stable energy supply is essential for operational efficiency, improved living conditions for personnel, and the effective functioning of military institutions,” Mr Musa said.

He also reaffirmed the commitment of the defence ministry to working with the science and technology community in areas such as research, innovation, capacity building, and energy development.

Mr Udeh expressed readiness to partner with the defence sector. 

The ministers agreed that stronger institutional partnerships would help harness Nigeria’s scientific potential and translate research outcomes into practical solutions for national development and security.
