Defendant, 52, arraigned over alleged N5 million fraud

The magistrate adjourned the case until February 11, 2026, for hearing.

A 52-year-old defendant, Adeleke Ojo, was on Thursday, charged before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, over alleged five million naira fraud.

The defendant is standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Anthony Igori, told the court that the defendant conspired with others now at large, to commit the offence between June 2022 and November 2025, at Eleyele in Ibadan.

Mr Igori alleged that the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum of five million naira from one Mrs Esther Babafemi, under the pretence of supplying her precious stone.

He alleged that the defendant did not supply the precious stone to the complainant, but stole the money.

The offence contravenes the provisions of section 383, 390 (9), 419 and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State 2000.

The Magistrate, T. G. Daodu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of three million naira,with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until February 11, 2026, for hearing. (NAN)
