Defendant arraigned for allegedly exhuming, interfering with son’s corpse

The police on Monday, charged a 56-year-old man, Kazeen Olalekan, before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly exhuming and interfering with the corpse of his late son.
Olalekan, whose address was not provided, is standing trial on charges bordering on the alleged offence.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Inspector Olalekan Adegbite, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on November 22, at about 1.00 a.m. at Idi-Arere, in Ibadan.
Adegbite alleged that the defendant interfered with the corpse of one late Roqeed, his son, and indignified same contrary to law.
He was alleged to have dug the deceased’s grave, and removed the corpse’s bones, with intent to use same for rituals.
The offence contravenes the provisions of section 242(1)(b) of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Kausarat Ayofe, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until February.10, 2026, for hearing.
