Delta governor mourns elder statesman Adiotomre
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed sadness over the demise of Mike Adiotomre.
Mr Oborevwori expressed the sadness in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, on Friday in Warri.
Recall that the deceased, a prominent elder statesman and political leader from Ovu-Inland in the Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state, died at 88.
The governor described the late Adiotomre as an institution of knowledge, wisdom and experience.
He said that the contributions of the octogenarian to public service, politics and
peace-building was remarkable.
According to the governor, the late Adiotomre was a father figure in politics in Ethiope East and Delta Central.
He added that the late elder statesman was a school, a library and a compass to those who sought wisdom and direction from him.
The governor said the deceased served the old Bendel State and Delta meritoriously.
He recalled that the deceased served as a secretary of the defunct Bendel State Hospitals Management Board and in other strategic public positions.
The governor said that the late Adiotomre distinguished himself through commitment to public service and an uncommon ability to promote dialogue and understanding across political divides.
Mr Oborevwori noted that the deceased remained a voice of calm in times of political tension, adding that his counsel was respected across party lines.
“Adiotomre’s reputation for moderation and reconciliation informed his inclusion in the Delta Advisory and Peace Building Council, where he was recognised as a voice of wisdom and moderation.
“His interventions always birthed understanding, unity and reconciliation, a testament to true heroism and statesmanship,” he said.
Mr Oborevwori commiserated with the Adiotomre family, the people of Ethiope East and the entire Urhobo ethnic group over the loss.
He prayed God to grant the deceased eternal rest and give his family and associates the strength to bear the loss.
